This Napier Self Guided Cycle Tour includes the following: Bike, pannier & helmet hire, water bottle, route instructions & trail map, wine pick up service and return transport from Napier or Hastings and Pub Dinner.
Your adventure starts with the wineries of Black Barn, Te Mata Estate and Akarangi in Havelock North where the wine tasting starts early! With your first two winery visits under your belt we also highly recommend a visit to the Chalk and Cheese Cafe and Origin Earth sample room to savour some of the best cheeses you’ll ever taste before departing Havelock North. From here you enjoy a 16km cycle on the limestone cycle trail of the landscapes ride, following the Tuki Tuki River, to the coastal communities of Haumoana and Te Awanga. The views are stunning as you cycle the raised stop-bank trail and look out over orchards, vineyards, corn fields and farmland.
Reaching the coast you’ll be ready to taste some more fine wine at Elephant Hill, Clearview Estate and Te Awanga Estate (summer only). If lunch at either Clearview Estate or Elephant Hill is on your ‘wish-list’ we strongly recommend pre-booking to avoid disappointment and we are happy to assist with reservations. NB: Most wineries charge for tastings which is payable direct.
Opening hours at wineries vary and some wineries are closed over winter months. Please check at the time of booking the number of wineries you should expect to find open. Wherever possible we will advise of closures due to private functions however we cannot be held responsible for closures we have not been advised of. Transport is from/to the Napier or Hastings i-Sites or central accommodation only.
After you have finished your cycle tour, you would have worked up an appetite. Head back into Napier for the best Pub Grub Napier has to offer. In our experience, this portion of the day is a must, to avoid getting too drunk too fast, and ending up in a taxi home by 10 pm. Your choice of a meaty man delights main, with Garlic Bread for the table to start & a desert to finish.
